Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) provides short-term financial assistance to applicants who are:

  • Pregnant or caring for a child under 19 years of age;
  • U.S. national, citizen, legal alien, or permanent resident;
  • Have low or very low income;
  • Under-employed (working for very low wages), unemployed, or about to be unemployed.

General Assistance

State General Assistance programs pay a limited amount of benefits to individuals who fail to qualify for other forms of assistance services.
