How Does Social Security Disability Work?
The Social Security Administration (SSA) uses both medical disability criteria and non-medical criteria to determine if you qualify for benefits. You may be eligible for Social Security Disability benefits based upon your age, work history, and medical condition. To be eligible, you must be able to show:
- You are medically disabled.
- You have earned enough work credits to be considered “insured” if applying for SSDI benefits.
Social Security does not award benefits to people with partial disability or short-term disability. The SSA will pay benefits to people with a medical condition that is expected to last at least one year or result in death. You must also have paid Social Security taxes for 5 out of the past 10 years.
Do not delay applying for benefits if you are unsure if you qualify; allow Disability Apply to help you determine that.
How Disability Apply Will Help You Apply For SSD
The SSA application process and forms can be difficult to navigate, with confusing terminology and strict requirements. While you have the option to file on your own, any mistakes or missing information can affect your eligibility, when you receive your benefits, and how much back pay you receive.
Disability Apply can process the entire application for you. All you have to do is talk to one of our representatives over the phone. Our representatives properly handle the forms, the filings, and the paperwork.
At Disability Apply, our experienced representatives help applicants prepare strong disability claims, creating the best possible chance for you to receive benefits as soon as possible.
Applying through Disability Apply offers the advantage of being able to start your disability claim without:
- Having to go to the Social Security office;
- Running into any online complications;
- Having to wait to speak to an SSA representative over the phone.
In addition, you can contact us from any location, saving you time and money. Plus, there are no upfront costs for helping you apply for SSD benefits. We work on a contingency fee basis, are paid only if you receive benefits, and the Federal Government limits the fees paid to attorneys for representation.
What Information Is Needed To Apply?
When applying for disability, we will need information such as your Social Security number, birth certificate, and a copy of the most recent W-2 form or your federal tax returns for the previous year.
Also, you should provide us with medical information. If you do not have medical information available, we can help you gather it. We will need medical information such as:
- Details about your condition to determine if your condition qualifies.
- Information about the doctors, hospitals, or clinics that you visit.
- Medical records that you already have in possession.
- Names of medicines you are taking.
- Laboratory and test results.
Not only will we make sure everything is completed as quickly as possible, but we will also follow up with the SSA and keep you updated with regularity.
We can walk through the application together and determine what information is missing that you need to obtain. We have the resources and experience to ensure you have everything in order, and, most importantly, understand how important these disability payments are to you.
How Long Does the Approval Process Take After I Apply?
After applying for disability benefits, the average wait time to eventually receive disability benefits is around 15 months. However, hiring a disability advocate will not only greatly increase your chances of being awarded benefits, but it can also speed up the process.
That’s why we recommend starting right away with your application. You can complete this free, no-obligation evaluation form to start the application process. Our office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST, and you can reach us directly at:

We are available all across the United States to support you or a loved one with the disability application process. We have helped applicants in every U.S. state receive the benefits they deserve.
What If I Applied Before?
The majority of first-time applicants are denied at the initial stage of the application process. Fortunately, you can appeal the initial decision. But, we do not recommend trying to go through the appeal process on your own.
Applicants who go through the process on their own are likely to continue being denied compared to applicants who have help from professionals who understand the process. Every day, we help applicants who were initially denied walk through the appeal process to eventually receive the benefits they deserve.
If you previously applied for benefits and were denied, a Disability Apply representative can file an appeal on your behalf. To increase your chances of being approved for benefits after previously applying for benefits, talk to us immediately about how we can help.
